Bringing about a Zero Carbon Britain by 2030 is a hugely ambitious undertaking, but a necessary one if we wish to avoid dangerous levels of global warming, according to the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research. Failure to prevent climate change early enough will result in changing weather patterns, crop failures, consequent mass migrations and severe competition for food and water around the world.

Zero Carbon Britain is a demonstrably achievable objective, and CAT’s policy suggestions are based only on known technologies that are readily available to harness and deploy. What we need now is the groundswell of support that will push political leaders into implementing these (or similar) suggestions in order to bring about the decarbonisation of Britain.

Zero Carbon Britain won’t just be about using renewable energy. Other major areas in which emissions can be reduced include buildings, transport, food production, land use and life styles. Decarbonising Britain will affect and involve all areas of society and industry.

Over the last year and a half, CAT has presented ZCB to a wide variety of groups, ranging from school groups to postgraduates, from interested members of the public to national politicians, from trade unions to heads of industry. We adapt our style and technical content to suit each group, maintaining a clear message about why a zero-carbon Britain is needed and our vision of how it can be achieved.
